Located in the London Borough of Camden, Belsize Park is a cosmopolitan, attractive and fashionable area of London.

5 Things you should know about Belsize Park

It can take as little as 12 minutes to drive from Belsize Park to Central London without traffic.

The name comes from the French ‘bel assis’, meaning ‘well situated.

The entrance of the large underground air raid shelter built in World War II can still be seen near the tube station at Downside Crescent.

In July 2011, Belsize Park tube station became a Grade II listed building.

The striking and recently listed Isokon building in Lawn Road was once home to Agatha Christie and Henry Moore, among others.

Its stunning architecture and vibrant character coupled with easy access to the green spaces of Primrose Hill, Hampstead Heath and Regents Park make it a hugely popular place to live.  Belsize Park is centred around the underground station (Northern Line) on Haverstock Hill with easy access to the Jubilee Line at Swiss Cottage and features a Screen on the Hill cinema, Waitrose, a varied selection of delicatessens, lively upmarket bars and several exclusive boutiques. Belsize Village on Belsize Lane is a little quieter with established restaurants, a wine merchant and a pub at its heart. Englands Lane offers a vibrant café society with shops and restaurants.

The area boasts several good schools including The Hall School, a leading boys’ prep, and Sarum Hall, the renowned girls’ school.
While properties in all parts of Belsize Park are highly sought-after, homes in Steeles Road, ‘The Stuccos’ (Buckland Crescent, Belsize Park Gardens, Belsize Park and Belsize Square) along with Belsize Avenue and Eton Avenue are particularly desirable. Those familiar with the area will be able to point out hidden gems such as Wychcombe Studios, beautifully restored former artists’ studios that today are home to several artists and fine art dealers.

The attractive local architecture includes white stucco-fronted Victorian houses, large red brick mansion blocks, which have been converted into spacious two and three-bedroom apartments, as well as a number of picturesque mews cottages and artist studios.

Now equally as fashionable as its Hampstead neighbour, Belsize Park is fast becoming a magnet for celebrities. Their equally illustrious MP is the actress Glenda Jackson.
